Richard is so much more than a personal trainer. I thought we were just working on my physical conditioning, but he takes a holistic approach that looks at your body and your mental attitude. Richard was my personal trainer for approximately 3 years. Unfortunately, I have moved away from his area of operation and I miss working with him very much. He has consistently performed to the very highest of standards. Throughout, Richard has been both supportive of my aims and creative in the manner used to achieve them. Richard carefully planned all sessions and ensured they contained both variety of approach, thus preventing boredom, and challenge, so promoting progress and development. Richard was always fully aware of any health issues and readily modified any exercise to allow proper movement and full control. I always felt cared about when working with Richard. He always focused solely on my performance and would offer full encouragement so helping me to succeed. Richard’s politeness, for example he would say, “10 press-ups, please Paul,” gave me further motivation to really try to succeed in all movements and exercises. My core strength improved significantly thus helping my balance and recovery. Richard also made sure that there was a wide range of exercises that I could employ away from the gym. Giving me a range of movements requiring no equipment meant I made more rapid progress. Richard is the reason why I am a healthy and strong septuagenarian! We met fifteen years ago and he has been my trainer ever since. I had been worried about becoming unable to walk stairs and lacking stamina. But Richard patiently allowed me to build my own routine of regular attendance at the gym and knew exactly how to gradually increase my fitness in a way that was compatible with my lifestyle. As a personal trainer, Richard is a great enabler. For me personally I could often get stuck in the “I can’t do that …..movement, exercise, sequence, activity, because I’m too unfit, overweight etc” and what always impressed me about Richard was that he found ways “I could”. He was encouraging, but never patronising. Realistic, but with huge optimism , peppered with seeing the long-term goals of improved function and movement. His continuous belief of my achieving goals was always appreciated. His scientific knowledge meant that his explanations were factual and informative, and each session showed he really cared about my wellbeing. Following a hamstring injury(grade 2 tear) it was important for me to find help with a training plan that assisted and not hindered my recovery. After a few not so successful encounters with the large gym’s in the area where they are only after your monthly subscription fees i was very fortunate to find RBPT based in Fleet. Richard’s knowledge on injury recovery programs was immense and he assisted my recovery, initially, with gentle exercises and controlled stretching that slowly assisted me on the road to full recovery. Richard was friendly, personable and a font of knowledge in all aspects of fitness. I now regularly enjoy varied training sessions of, rowing, cycling, body weight exercises, lifting weights, and the cardiovascular fitness strengthening has greatly assisted in improving my overall wellbeing at 52.
